My name is Giancarlo. I always wanted to serve food like my mother did.

Her name is Clelia and she cooked for some of the most famous people in Rome:

Marcello Mastroianni, Dino and Silvana Mangano DeLaurentis, Alberto Sordi, Sophia Loren, etc.

I would like to serve you like she served them.

If you try it you are going to fall in love with our place.

I just found my new favorite restaurant. Everything about the place was the heavenly- from the gnocchi to the easy-going and charming manner of our host, Massimo. I love that it's a BYOB, but if you're rushed like we were, you can select a bottle from their wine list. We were able to linger over coffee- no server hovering over us, eager to turn the table. And the food- well, I've not tasted Italian food better in the fine city of Philadelphia. It's even more fantastic considering that those prices just about anywhere would be a steal- to find them in the heart of Center City was kind of like Christmas.

Very very friendly service, excellent food and desire to please. If you don't see what you want on the menu, they'll make it for you. If you go during the pre-opera crowd, service is a bit slower, but that's to be expected as there's a rush to get people out. Afterward though, the restaurant becomes much quieter and calmer. Excellent overall impressions.

The 6 of us dined on Friday at 7pm. It was not very crowded. We found the service to be friendly and very personable. Our appetizers of rolled eggplant with cheese and some Italian meat, mussels in red, eggplant and goat cheese were all excellent. They serve delicious Italian bread and cheese bread. Our entrees of whole fish, char grilled veal chop, and osso bucco were all done perfectly with good portions. I thought the veal was tender with a nice but not overpowering mushroom based sauce. You could taste the char grilling which is something I really like. My osso buco was so very tender and had 2 marrow bones. The desserts consisted of a vanilla custardlike cake and tiramisu, both very nice. They even made us a dish my gourmand friend likes with whipped egg yolks and strawberries. The complementary lemoncello was a nice touch. They allow you to bring your own wines. We felt that our patronage was appreciated and we were allowed to dine and sit as long as we cared to. Of course, we are friendly people who order a lot of food and like to share our wines, so this helped.

My girlfriends and I always make this a stop after our day out on the town. The gnocchi is to die for!! They are so light that they feel like marshmallows in your mouth! I need to know their secret. The atmosphere is great - a tad dark, but great and you always feel welcome. We have been there so much in the past 2 years that I think we should help run the place. Definitely check it out!

"Fine Dining experience with scant cost" - 10/16/2004

Had a great dinner of homemade gnocchi and a seafood soup. The gnochhi literally melted in my mouth but the soup was just ok, only because it had too much calimari, which I am NOT a fan of. But the amazing thing was that with a $30 bottle of wine (a great suggestion by owner Michael-one of the greatest restaurant personalities in Philly) and dinner for 3 it cost only $100. Most unheard of for Center City food of that quality.
